{"id":26949,"date":"2026-07-17T18:43:03","date_gmt":"2026-07-17T16:43:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/patrimoine-avesnois.fr\/chemin\/?page_id=26949"},"modified":"2026-07-17T18:52:33","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T16:52:33","slug":"regard-dans-le-retroviseur","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/patrimoine-avesnois.fr\/chemin\/regard-dans-le-retroviseur\/","title":{"rendered":"Regard dans le r\u00e9troviseur"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Entre les ann\u00e9es 1930 et 1960, les routes de l\u2019Avesnois et de la Sambre\u2011Thi\u00e9rache ont vu passer un monde aujourd\u2019hui disparu : celui des garages de village, des m\u00e9caniciens passionn\u00e9s, des voitures fran\u00e7aises aux silhouettes devenues mythiques, et d\u2019une diversit\u00e9 de constructeurs que l\u2019on peine \u00e0 imaginer aujourd\u2019hui. \u00c0 cette \u00e9poque, l\u2019automobile n\u2019\u00e9tait pas seulement un moyen de transport : elle \u00e9tait un symbole de modernit\u00e9, un objet de fascination, un d\u00e9fi technique, et souvent un tr\u00e9sor que l\u2019on entretenait avec soin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dans ce paysage rural encore marqu\u00e9 par les chemins de terre, les pav\u00e9s, les haies et les fermes, un jeune homme de Prisches, <strong>Andr\u00e9 Carr\u00e9<\/strong>, commen\u00e7a en 1937 un m\u00e9tier qui allait devenir sa vie : m\u00e9canicien. Il apprit son art dans les garages de Thi\u00e9rache, r\u00e9para des moteurs aujourd\u2019hui oubli\u00e9s, transforma des voitures en tracteurs, redonna vie \u00e0 des m\u00e9caniques capricieuses, et accompagna l\u2019\u00e9volution automobile d\u2019une r\u00e9gion enti\u00e8re. Son regard, ses souvenirs, ses anecdotes, ses gestes, sont autant de fragments d\u2019un patrimoine technique et humain que l\u2019on ne peut laisser s\u2019effacer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ce texte est un voyage dans ce pass\u00e9 m\u00e9canique, un retour dans les ateliers d\u2019autrefois, un hommage aux constructeurs disparus, aux mod\u00e8les embl\u00e9matiques, aux garages de village, et \u00e0 ceux qui, comme mon p\u00e8re, ont fait vivre l\u2019automobile dans l\u2019Avesnois. C\u2019est aussi une mani\u00e8re de comprendre comment, en quelques d\u00e9cennies, une r\u00e9gion rurale a vu d\u00e9filer Rosengart, Delage, Hotchkiss, Panhard, Simca, Peugeot, Renault, Citro\u00ebn\u2026 avant que ne s\u2019impose la grande simplification industrielle des ann\u00e9es 1960.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Regard dans le r\u00e9troviseur<\/strong>, c\u2019est enfin un geste de m\u00e9moire : celui de transmettre ce que furent ces voitures, ces marques, ces moteurs, ces hommes, et ces routes. Il m\u2019a parl\u00e9 \u00e0 plusieurs reprises de cette marque sur laquelle il \u00ab&nbsp;travailla, pr\u00e9cisant qu\u2019elle n\u2019avait ni pompe \u00e0 eau, ni pompe \u00e0 huile&nbsp;\u00bb. Il m\u2019apporta des pr\u00e9cisions&nbsp;: l\u2019eau \u00e9tait refroidie par un thermosiphon et l\u2019huile \u00e9tait projet\u00e9e vers le haut \u00e0 partir du carter par le vilebrequin permettant de refroidir et de lubrifier les pistons. Elle disposait d\u2019un moteur 6 Cylindres en ligne \u00e0 soupapes en t\u00eate command\u00e9es par culbuteurs, avec arbre \u00e0 cames lat\u00e9ral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Je ne sais pas sur lequel de ces deux mod\u00e8les mon p\u00e8re me dit un jour avoir rectifi\u00e9 la culasse et les soupapes. Lorsqu\u2019Emile Delahaye dispara\u00eet en 1905, Charles Weiffenbach continue de faire prosp\u00e9rer l\u2019entreprise en construisant des voitures de grande qualit\u00e9, fiables et rapides. En 1933, la firme s\u2019oriente vers la production de grandes routi\u00e8res \u00e0 caract\u00e8re sportif et en 1935 d\u00e9marre la production du type 135. Issu du type 138, le type 135 est propos\u00e9 sur un nouveau ch\u00e2ssis surbaiss\u00e9 avec un moteur 6 cylindres en ligne de 3,5 litres de 20 cv et va conna\u00eetre une carri\u00e8re exceptionnellement longue. C\u2019est une voiture \u00e0 la fois solide, endurante, luxueuse et sportive qui donnera lieu \u00e0 des versions de course et de rallye et \u00e0 des cabriolets et coup\u00e9s carross\u00e9s par les meilleurs stylistes de la p\u00e9riode 1936- 1952. Delahaye fournissait en effet des ch\u00e2ssis nus, le client pouvant alors choisir vers quel carrossier se tourner. Elle adopte en effet un bloc moteur Chrysler V8 de 5,9&nbsp;litres (361cv).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">V\u00e9ritable r\u00e9ussite commerciale, elle sera produite \u00e0 490 l\u2019Aronde qui en 1951 est le premier mod\u00e8le qui n\u2019est plus bas\u00e9 sur un mod\u00e8le Fiat existant. Trois g\u00e9n\u00e9rations d&rsquo;Aronde se sont succ\u00e9d\u00e9&nbsp;: la 9, la 1300 ou 90A et la P60<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Simca rach\u00e8te en 1954 Ford France et en 1955 commercialise la Ford Vedette seconde g\u00e9n\u00e9ration sous la marque Simca. Celle-ci rach\u00e8te aussi le petit constructeur fran\u00e7ais de voitures de luxe et de sport, Talbot en 1958. La m\u00eame ann\u00e9e,&nbsp;le groupe am\u00e9ricain Chrysler&nbsp;prend une participation dans le capital de Simca \u00e0 hauteur de 25% puis 62 % en 1962. Mon p\u00e8re en acquit plusieurs et les transforma en tracteurs, \u00e0 la grande joie des agriculteurs de la r\u00e9gion. C\u2019\u00e9tait une des voitures pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9es de mon p\u00e8re qui en poss\u00e9dait une et avec laquelle toute la famille traversa la France en 1952. Celle-ci est qualifi\u00e9e de r\u00e9volutionnaire, et d&rsquo;un confort int\u00e9rieur remarquable gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 sa suspension hydropneumatique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les ann\u00e9es 1930 \u00e0 1960 foisonnent de cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9, tant sur le plan de la motorisation que sur celui du style. Au sortir de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, les silhouettes automobiles oscillent entre l\u2019arrogance du styling am\u00e9ricain \u2014 Simca \u00e9tant en 1954 la plus am\u00e9ricanis\u00e9e des marques fran\u00e7aises \u2014 et l\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9gance italienne port\u00e9e par Pinin Farina pour Peugeot ou Flaminio Bertoni pour Citro\u00ebn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les premi\u00e8res nouveaut\u00e9s d\u2019apr\u00e8s\u2011guerre sont des voitures populaires : la 2CV chez Citro\u00ebn, la 4CV chez Renault, la Dyna chez Panhard. Tr\u00e8s vite, des mod\u00e8les plus ambitieux apparaissent : la 203 chez Peugeot, la Vedette chez Ford, la Fr\u00e9gate chez Renault, l\u2019Aronde chez Simca. Ces voitures marquent l\u2019entr\u00e9e de la modernit\u00e9 dans les campagnes, et transforment durablement les habitudes de mobilit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Au fil des ann\u00e9es, le paysage automobile fran\u00e7ais se simplifie : ne restent bient\u00f4t que trois grands constructeurs. Peugeot adopte la politique de la voiture familiale avec les 404 et 504 ; Citro\u00ebn joue la carte du futurisme avec la DS 19 ; Renault mise sur la fonctionnalit\u00e9 avec la R4 puis sur les citadines avec la R5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mais derri\u00e8re ces \u00e9volutions techniques et stylistiques, il y a aussi une histoire plus intime : celle des garages de village, des m\u00e9caniciens passionn\u00e9s, des voitures que l\u2019on r\u00e9parait avec patience, et des silhouettes famili\u00e8res qui traversaient les bourgs de l\u2019Avesnois. C\u2019est cette histoire que j\u2019ai voulu raconter ici, \u00e0 travers les souvenirs de mon p\u00e8re, Andr\u00e9 Carr\u00e9, qui a vu passer, r\u00e9par\u00e9, entretenu et parfois sauv\u00e9 tant de ces voitures aujourd\u2019hui disparues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Je d\u00e9die cet article \u00e0 sa m\u00e9moire.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">PS&nbsp;: La France comptait 30 constructeurs automobiles en 1900, 57 en 1910 et 155 en 1914&nbsp;! Cependant la crise financi\u00e8re de 1929 en \u00e9limina beaucoup pour ne plus \u00eatre en 1939 que 22 constructeurs fabriquant 39 moteurs. Parmi les marques notoires ayant disparu avant le second conflit mondial nous pouvons citer Rolland-Pilain qui exista entre 1905 et 1927, Farman qui fabriqua des automobiles de luxe entre 1919 et 1931, Rochet-Schneider qui arr\u00eata sa&nbsp; production automobile en 1931, De Dion Bouton qui abandonna la production d&rsquo;automobiles de tourisme en 1932, Bucciali dont la caract\u00e9ristique fut de produire que de gros moteurs entre 1922 \u00e0 1933,&nbsp;Donnet qui fut c\u00e9d\u00e9e en 1934 \u00e0 Simca Fiat, Ballot qui fabriqua ses premi\u00e8res automobiles de tourisme en 1921 mais qui disparut en 1938 apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 rachet\u00e9e par Hispano-Suiza, Ari\u00e8s qui fut active entre 1903 et 1938.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aux 12 constructeurs fran\u00e7ais entre 1930 et 1960 que j\u2019ai cit\u00e9s, il en existait donc 10 autres mais aux voitures tr\u00e8s peu pr\u00e9sentes dans le Nord sauf erreur de ma part.
